About
About the Fellowship
The Fellows are fully supported by the Scheme – and by their host
University – to progress the development of their science into a commercial enterprise. A key part
of the programme is the tailored training programme covering essential business and personal
development skills.
Expert advice and good funding
Support funds are managed jointly
by the scheme managers and by the Fellow, and are drawn down as agreed milestones are met.
Each Fellow works with the scheme managers, to create parallel 'roadmaps'
for the science and the enterprise. Added to this is a personal development programme to provide
underpinning skills and knowledge.
Science and business in parallel
The research and development of the science is monitored and fostered
through academic mentoring: usually this would be an extension of the departmental system.
Help on tap, and online
Tools available to the Fellows include a dedicated extranet, complete with
online resources and reporting facilities, business skills and science information, as well as
financial and management help. Diaries of biotech events, support facilities, contacts and
checklists are all available online, for the exclusive use of the Fellows. In order to maximize the
impact of available resources within the region, careful signposting directs the Fellows to the most
relevant resources.
Market focused, for market knowledge
As the Fellow's science and business develops, so too will engagement with
the marketplace and the investment community. Exposure to healthcare, medical devices, life science
and pharma organisations are arranged during the programme, to help define market opportunities,
routes to market, and supply chains. Similarly, Fellows are encouraged to meet and present to
private and institutional investors – local angel groups and VCs.
